50th Anniversary FIA Shelby Cobra 289
Shelby American commemorates the 50th anniversary of FIA with a special edition of its 289 Cobra.
In 1964, Shelby American, now a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. presented the FIA Cobra version of the small, who competed in the World Series against 1964 Manufacturers brands such as Aston Martin, Jaguar and Corvette.
To celebrate the birth of the 289 Ford powered roadsters Shelby American will offer a limited edition 50 289 FIA Shelby Cobras. Each Viking Painted blue with stripes and roundels FIA, have a black interior FIA, special anniversary badges, original style wheels and a variety of additional options. The 50th Anniversary of the Shelby Cobra FIA is entered in the annual Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Friday, January 17, 2014.
"The 289 FIA Shelby Cobras were among the most important cars in the history of American racing," said John Luft, president of Shelby American. "The Cobras FIA built during that period were driven by racing legends including Ken Miles, Dan Gurney, Phil Hill and Bob Bondurant. Example, some of the most respected in the sport pilots placed the 289 FIA Cobra in the winner's circle. Combine a solid and powerful American engine with a lightweight chassis was sheer brilliance. "
Shelby American built 289 Race FIA Cobras, the changes included a new dashboard, front and rear fenders, new shocks, racing wheels hub featuring pin-drive, oil cooler scoops and small block engine to be opened competition spec 289.
Today, the continuation CSX7000 Shelby Cobra 289 FIA cars are components that can be installed with a suitable power train by a customer or professional vehicle.
"Our CSX7000 cars incorporate safety and performance improvements without sacrificing driving excitement with originality," said Vince LaViolette, senior designer and director of R & D at Shelby American. "It has a small block V8 pushing only 2.100 pounds. Is the lightest ever built comes with an amazing power to weight ratio." The Shelby Cobra 289 FIA will retain everything from the suspension to the authentic style of the body lines, but are upgraded to contemporary standards. The 50th Anniversary Edition also features a full exhaust for a small block Ford V8, a cover of the special built car and optional detachable wheel.

"Shelby American controlled at Ferrari, Corvette and other race teams and manufacturers shapely, well-funded and established. That was no small feat, even in those simpler times."
The 50th Anniversary CSX7000 Shelby Cobra 289 FIA cost $ 94.995 with fiberglass or $ 159.995 with aluminum body.
